Woad

I am more of an aural learner than a visual one. This has led me to leave my woad in the garden far too long. It should have been harvested in August, but my brain heard the “Au” sound and assumed it should be October. Today I went back to look at the harvesting instructions and realized my mistake, so quickly headed out to the garden after work. The few plants I started with appear to have spread, or perhaps some of the seeds came up much later than the first ones. In any case, I ended up with a grocery bag full of leaves. I’m hoping that the fact I planted them far later than recommended will mean the late harvest is okay. I’ll need to get some soda ash at the pool supply store on Friday, and then I can start trying to get dye. It’s exciting to be back at doing something creative!
